Bag of Rice Project #472 -A visit to the Isong family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Isong family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 472nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Isong family in Eket, a village in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. This lovely family lives in a one-room apartment. The house they reside in is built with mud and they stay in this house with their kid and they have only one kid. The husband and wife received us when we drove into their compound. Though they had a visitor at the time we visited. When we told them what we had for them all they could do at that time was praise God and pray for those who donated the bag of rice for them.

The Isong family erected a structure at the back of their house which served as a kitchen, the kitchen was in an open space without a roof to cover them whenever rain falls. The family makes use of firewood to cook because that’s the cheapest they can afford considering the price of gas which is on high price. The husband is a mason. He does this to take care of the family, the wife is unemployed and she told us she has an interest in learning hairdressing but due to the fact that there is no money, she has been unable to learn the trade.

The family was happy when they got the bag of rice, they thanked the donor and prayed to God to bless them and help them in times of their need. The visitor who came to see them also prayed for the donor and thanked us for visiting the family this yuletide season. The family smiled and prayed for us and the donor as we left.
