Bag of Rice Project #474 -A visit to the Sunday family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Sunday family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 474th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We went to the Eket, a village in Akwa Ibom State, and met this lovely family.  The family received us and when we told them what we had for them, they were happy. The family has two kids. The family lives in a mud hut which can collapse at any time and whenever rain falls the room is usually filled with water. The family lives in a one-room apartment. They commented that a bag of rice at this time considering the current economic times is a lot for the family, an unexpected gift that will bless them greatly.

The family erected a mud structure that serves as their kitchen, they make use of firewood for cooking which is the cheapest fuel they can afford, they also can’t afford a small gas cooker because they don’t even have what to use to feed every day so they stuck to the firewood for cooking. Mr. Sunday is a bike rider and he uses this to fend for the family. The wife is unemployed and she said she would love to sell fish at the market but the capital to start is the problem.

The family was happy and all they could do was pray for the donor and said God will help them in their times of need as they have helped them when they are in dire need. All they could do was pray, sing and dance. When we left they waved at us and prayed until they were unable to see us again.
