Bag of Rice Project #497 -A visit to the Isaiah family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Isaiah family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 497th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Isaiah Family was recommended to us by a friend. The Isaiah Family stays in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.  They live in Effoi village in Eket. When. When we arrived at their compound, the family was all seated outside. The Isaiah family has 7 kids and they all don’t go to school. When we told them our purpose for visiting they were happy and shocked that someone would donate a full bag of rice to them without getting anything back in return. The Isaiah family lives in a mud house and the roof is a thatched roof which allows easy access for the rain to flood the house when it falls. The family said they tried repairing part of the house that was destroyed by rain.

The Isaiah family cooks at the back of their house and they make use of firewood for cooking instead of a cooking gas, but they are unable to afford cooking gas. Mr. Isaiah is a bike man, he does this to take care of the family, the wife is unemployed but she said she will like to learn to tailor but because of lack of finances she has been unable to enroll in the school.

Their kitchen

The Isaiah family thanked the donor and prayed that as the donor remembered them God will answer them anytime they call on God. They danced around the compound and were happy. They waved at us as we left.
