Easy Halloween Spider Cookies ~ Fun DIY recipe Ideas for kids

I love this recipe because it is absolutely adorable, perfect for any Halloween party or event. These spider cookies look  like you really went all out to make the ultimate treat, but they are really SO EASY! Plus they give you options, if you want to make the recipe below you will LOVE IT. But if you are in a hurry or don’t like to bake, no worries buy a bag of cookies from the store and then just follow the last 3 instructions below. If you don’t have Oreos or want to make smaller cookies you can do the same idea but use Rolos or Mini Peanut Butter Cups for the spider body instead.

Halloween Spider Cookies, easy DIY treats for your Halloween Party, school party treat ideasIngredients:
¾ Cup butter, softened
¾ Cup brown sugar
¾ Cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Sandwich bag filled with Oreos, coarsely crushed (I used about 12)
12 oz bag white chocolate chips
Extra Oreo cookies
Black decorating gel
Candy eyes

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use non-stick spray. We like giant cookies so we used a woopie-pie pan.
In a bowl, mix together butter, brown sugar, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
In a second bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and combine.
In a sandwich bag, crush the Oreos. You don’t want them to be finely crushed, you want to have chunks of Oreo in your cookies!
Add the Oreos and the white chocolate chips to the batter and mix well.
You will want the cookies to be large enough to hold an Oreo spider. We used a woopie-pie pan on one batch and the other we used a large ice cream scoop.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until they just begin to brown. Let them cool completely on the cookie sheet.

LAST 3 STEPS…

Once the cookies are cool, use the decorating gel to ‘glue’ on an Oreo to the center of each cookie.
Add a dot of decorating gel to the back of each of the candy eyes and stick it into place. And 8 gel spider legs finish your cookie.
Let the cookies sit and the decorating gel will harden. Enjoy!

Witch Feet Cupcakes ~ Quick, Easy, Halloween Treats

Witch Feet Cupcakes ~ Quick, Easy, Halloween Treats

Paper straws are big right now.  You can find all kinds of them all over right now.  When I saw these black and orange ones, I thought they looked like tights and came up with this idea.

You will need:

  • Cupcakes that are baked and iced
  • Sprinkles (optional)
  • Striped paper straws
  • Small witches feet cut outs (I cut mine out with my Silhouette machine, but you could find some by searching for them online and printing them off.  Mine were about an inch each)
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun

Begin by cutting your straws into 3 sections.  Don’t stress too much if they aren’t perfectly even, you can push them down a little further into the cupcake.  You can then attach the shoes to the straw sections using hot glue.  Let them cool and make sure you remove any glue strings that may be hanging before putting them into the cupcake.

I used some fall leaf sprinkles, maybe my witches were jumping into piles of leaves!  There you have a super simple party food that people will love and think is cute!  I served them at a family get together and the kids thought they were great!

Gourmet Halloween Pretzel Rods

Get fancy this year at the holiday parties with these gourmet Halloween Pretzel Rods recipe. And they’ll never know how easy it actually is to make!

Gourmet Halloween Pretzel Rods by Tiffany

We do these every year for just about every holiday. They are super easy and the kids will have a blast helping decorate these babies. Our family likes to make a bunch of these up, wrap them in treat bags with ties, and hand deliver them to all the kiddies in the neighborhood. Kids & adults both love them!  They’re one of those treats that don’t last long.

*SEE NOTES*

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (12 0z.) pretzel rods
  • 1 bag (12 oz.) Wilton Candy Melts, White
  • 1 bag (12 oz.) Wilton Candy Melts, Vibrant Green
  • Halloween sprinkles, different varieties
  • treat bags with ties, 4 in. x 9.5 in. (10 cm x 24 cm), optional
  • Wilton Orange Icing Color, optional

Directions

  1. Lay a long piece of waxed paper on a clean, dry, surface.
  2. Melt candy melts per packaged directions. (If making different colors with the white candy melts, see notes.)
  3. Dip pretzel rod into melted candy melts.
  4. Sprinkle with desired sprinkles. TIP: (When sprinkling with sprinkles, sprinkle over a bowl to catch the extra sprinkles. Use the extra sprinkles to make a sprinkled variety pretzel rod.) Lay dipped/sprinkled rods on waxed paper, let set.
  5. To make extra fancy… use a small ziploc sandwich sized bag and put a couple tablespoons of white melted candy melts inside, cut off a small piece of the corner; drizzle melted candy melts over pretzel rods. Let set.

NOTES: Instead of buying a bunch of different Halloween colored candy melts, I bought one bag of white and tinted it with Wilton Orange Icing Color that I had on hand.  To help save money, you can make small batches of the white melted candies and tint them with any color you’d desire that you have on hand.  To make, simply follow directions on the back of your Wilton Candy Melts package and add desired amount of icing color; stir well.

Pretzel Skeletons, Halloween Snack ~ #HalloweenTreats #DIY

These little  pretzel skeletons are so cute, you may not want to eat them!  Using candy coating and pretzels, you can make these fun, Halloween goodies perfect for your little goblins!

You will need to make  pretzel skeletons

Pretzels Sticks and mini twists

Almond bark

M&Ms for the eyes

Wax paper for setting up

Begin by melting your almond bark in the microwave for 90 seconds.  I did half a brick at a time.  If it isn’t melted, put it back in for another 20 seconds, taking it out to stir.  Continue those steps until it is melted all the way without chunks.

Candy Coating

Once you have the candy coating melted, begin to put your pretzels in.  I started with a twist for the head.  Once it was coated, I fished it out of the candy coating with a fork.  I then allowed the excess candy coating to drip back into my bowl, and set the pretzel on the wax paper.  My pattern was 1 twist pretzel followed by 5 stick pretzels all horizontal under the twist to form the ribs.  Once the ribs are done, do another twist pretzel, but this time do it upside down.  Finally, you will be doing 4 more sticks and laying them for the legs and arms.  If you are using M&Ms for the eyes, now is when you will put them on too.  Continue doing this until all of your candy coating is gone.  I got 12 skeletons out of half a brick of candy coating.  When they were done setting up on the wax paper I used a thin, metal spatula to scoop them off the wax paper.  The skeletons will be fairly brittle in some places, mostly where the head and ribs connect.  Be sure to set them in an airtight container where they won’t be shaken around a lot to avoid them breaking before you are ready to use them.

Yummy snack for school

Now you have a great, inexpensive snack for your kids, a Halloween party, maybe even a school party if you are going to take them yourself.  Not sure how they would hold up in the care of a rambunctious grade schooler! But pretty sure they would enjoy eating their lil pretzel skeletons.
