Bag of Rice Project #76 -A visit to the Usoro family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Usoro family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Julie Bryson this is the 76th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We had met Mr Usoro before, we met him while delivering a bag of Rice to the Ekpes (#70) He told us where he lived was far so we said our goodbyes and left him. So we spoke to his church leader and asked for families in need of help and he took us to a family and out came Mr Usoro. We both started laughing and I told the bishop that I met him before and had wanted to give him a bag of Rice but his house was too far and he was working at the time. I knew then that we were guided to this family and they were really in need for us to still be brought back to him.

Mr Usoro lives in his family house, a one bedroom apartment with his wife and 3 kids and they have a small structure at the back of their house where they cook their meals. He is a carpenter by trade and and he is also a farmer. Another thing that caught my eye in front of his house was a memorial to his grandfather and grandmother in front of his house. He said it helps him in family history as they keep records like that in their family.

When we came to visit the Usoros, their kids have all gone to school and we met Mr Usoro and his wife Comfort. They were grateful for the bag of Rice and Mr Usoro told me that when we left the Ekpes, he was praying that he gets to benefit from something like that, and God answered his prayers. He was grateful for the Rice and thanked the family that donated. We were happy to have visited this family and to have shared with their spirit and we know the food will go a long way in helping to feed this special family.
