Bag of Rice Project #77 -A visit to the Nkeruwem family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Nkeruwem family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tracy Ace Mccandless, Gloria Dabbs, Celina Klimek family, Stacie Mangold this is the 77th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This family was recommended to us by their church leader. Mr Nkeruwem is a blind man and he has six kids. He lives in a one bedroom apartment with his wife and two of his kids. And the rest of his kids stay with different people either learning a skill or working as hired help. Mr Nkeruwem lost his eyesight a little over 2 years ago and with that the only source of lively hood this family has. This has really hurt the family financially.

Mr Nkeruwem was a delight to talk to. He does not get visited a lot so he was excited that we visited him and he spoke to us and shared his story to us. He once had a job but his eyesight started dwindling and that led to the loss of his job and where he was living before. And now his children are not staying with him so they can fend for themselves. It was sad hearing this story from a man I assume was in a better place in life at one point.

When we told him why we visited him and what we brought for him, he was very happy. He kept thanking us over and over. We knew that this gift meant a lot to him and will help this family in their feeding for a long while. He was grateful to the family that donated and prayed that the lord will bless them. I could see the emotion that this gift brought for Mr Nkeruwem, who could not see the gift we brought but could feel the goodwill associated with it and the love behind it. We left this family knowing that their lives has been made a little better than it was before we came.
