How to make a Lava Lamp Bottle, DIY kids projects, Lava Lamp with oil #LavaLampNot sure what it is about them, but I think almost every kid wants a lava lamp at some point in their life.  My daughter had a blast making this Lava Lamp Bottle as part of her Science Party.  All the girls had fun watching it bubble and make fun designs.

How to make a Lava Lamp Bottle, DIY kids projects, Lava Lamp with oil #LavaLampTo make this project you will need:

  • Clear bottle (could be an old mayo jar, salad dressing, water bottle… anything clear)
  • Vegetable oil
  • Water
  • Food Coloring
  • Alka seltzer

Fill your bottle 3/4 of the way full of OIL, fill the other 1/4 of the bottle with water.  Add 8-10 drops of food color, break your Alka seltzer tab into small pieces (3-5 pieces will do) if the pieces are too big they bubble to much and the oil gets all cloudy.  ONE at a time add the pieces of alka seltzer, watch the bubbles begin.  It will last a few minutes once it stops, add another piece.

TIP even once it is DONE bubbling don’t put the lid on, we did and it blew OFF due to built up pressure.  The kids thought it was great….. but oil and food color bombs are not my idea of fun LOL :).
