4th of july crafts for kids

PIN IT here.

My kids are counting down the days till July 4th is here and they can go to the parade, enjoy the BBQ and see the fireworks at night.  To add a little sparkle to our house the girls and I made some FireWorks crafts.  This was a low cost craft that was quick and easy as well.

You can use what ever supplies you have around your house.  We used

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Red and blue paper
  • 4th of July themed napkins, you could also use scrapbook paper
  •  Pipe cleaners
  • Tape, scissors

We wrapped the toilet paper rolls in the napkins, and then taped them into place.  Next we took half a sheet of paper and made cuts all the way down the side to create a fringe look.  I layered the red on top the blue  then rolled it up and placed it inside the tube.  This makes it look like the firework is going off.  I then taped that into place on the inside of the tube so it would not fall out.

Next add the pipe cleaners.  First we put them in straight but they did not look very good, so then we twisted them around our fingers to give them a spiral look.  We hooked some stars on top with glue and then stuck then into the middle of the firework. Just like that you are DONE, my girls had a lot of fun making these.

Best part is I can toss them after the 4th and not feel bad…. after all we can just make them again next year.

DIY Pokemon Pikachu party cups

Thrifty way to save some money for a Pokemon party. Make your own DIY Pokemon Pikachu party cups.

DIY Pokemon Pikachu party cups

My son wanted a Pokemon party. Kid’s birthday parties can be so expensive. But being the thrifty lady that I am, I don’t spend a lot on them. We were able to come up with some great ideas and together we made some easy decorations and party supplies. There aren’t as many pictures as I had hoped to get but I did get to take a few.

To make these cups you will need:

yellow party cups

black sharpie

red sharpie

All you have to do is find a picture of Pikachu and copied his face with sharpie. The kids loved these cups and they were a big hit. I love doing inexpensive things like this for kid’s parties that they love and they don’t cost anything extra.

The Pikachu behind the cups is a pin the tail game that I found here and printed off at a local print shop so I didn’t use all my ink. The kids had a blast with it!

Here are the invites we used. They are a free printable we found here  and added all the party info before printing them off at the print shop too.

Tie dye Shirts with sharpie markers, make Fire Work shirts for the 4th of July all you need is a sharpie, and a spraybottle #TieDie, #DIY, #Crafts, #KidsMy girls wanted to make shirts for the 4th of July, so we deiced to make Tie Dye shirts with sharpies.  Inspired from the Tie Dye shirts we made at the beach.  We did it different this time, we did not use the cups or the dropper but the basic idea is the same.

You could make flags, scarves, t-shirts, towels…. all sorts of fun ideas.  This would also be a fun project to do on the 4th in the heat of the afternoon when you are waiting for the fireworks.

To make these all you need is:

Sharpie Makers

Rubbing Alcohol

Spray bottle

White T-shirt

Price of cardboard

If you don’t have cardboard you could also use a cookie sheet.

It will start to spread right away, but you will not see the final “blend Tie Dye look” till your shirt has dried.

If you want to set the ink, you can soak it in a Soda Ash before you draw on the shirt.    You can also heat set the ink with a iron.  Please note that once you wash the shirt it will start to fade if you do not first treat it with soda ash.

My kids are so excited about Mother’s Day, and they want to make a “project” or gift everyday to give me or their Grandma’s this weekend.  If you are looking for a fun Mother’s Day craft project for your  kids then you will love these corner book marks.

All you need is an envelope, pair of scissors, and crayons.

You need to keep the corner in tack (so when you cut it out, it creates a pocket).  Have your kids draw shapes like hearts or flowers on the corner of the envelope.  Use crayons or markers to decorate them.  Cut them out, this will create a pocket to slip the corner of the the book page into.  Simple as that you have a personalized gift for Mother’s Day.
