Mommy Moments

Happy to report a “thumbs up” and all looks good for another 4 months with Matthews heart. These appointments are always hard for me as I am always worried it will be bad news. Feeling blessed and so grateful for everyday the lords gives us with our miracle boy.hypoplastic left heart syndrome, HLHS, echo

Every night before my head hits the pillow I go to check on my kids and make sure they are ok.  But as I enter my oldest sons room each night I can not help but hold my breath and say a quick silent prayed to my Father in Heaven that he will be ok.  That his heart will be strong, that he will grant us one more day with this miracle of a boy, that we get to call our son.

We have been very lucky and the last 5-6 years he has been rather healthy, and beside a few hospital stays and seizures his heart has been strong.  Living each day with only half a heart and proving to the world that miracles happen.  To many those weeks even months in the hospital for the first 4 years of his life getting him well, are just a memory…. but not for me.  Not for this Mom, not a day passes where I do not thank the Lord for him, and plead (some days more than others) for the understanding and knowledge of how to teach him, how to care for him.  But most important pray that he can be healthy.

We went in for his 4 month check up, to check his heart again.  I put on my brave face, hold his hand maybe even skip thru the parking lot with him.  But inside I am a mess, I want to crawl into a ball and cry my eyes out.  Terrified this might be the appointment when we get the news that his heart can no longer keep up.  The news that in order to keep our son alive he must receive the life saving gift from another… a heart transplant.   But I can not let that show on my face, I have to be strong.

This week Matthew had his routine echo and heart check up.  He gives the Doctor a high 5 and climbs onto the table to have an echo-cardiogram done.  I hold his hand as I have always done…. but this time I looked down at him, my sweet baby boy and I see something different.  He is still small, he will never be large do to his heart…. But I saw a glimpse of the young man I dreamed and prayed he would be able to become.  My baby boy is growing into a man, and for any Mom that is an amazing site… but for me it is simply breath taking.

playing cars

Being a Mom to 4 kids I have learned that each one of my children is very different.  My 3 year old son is ALL BOY, his favorite thing is being with Daddy, tools, firetrucks, trains, police cars and anything with wheels on it.  Everyday he walks up to me and in a deep voice says, “Mom, want to play cars with me?”  He gets so excited when I will play with him.

We normally follow the roads, have a race or two (which he gets upset if his car loses). Go to the hot-dog stand, drive on the train tracks, see the fire men and make lots of car noises like ” vroom, brbrbrbr and weeee (when we drive fast)”.  Well yesterday when we were playing cars ( I was the train) we were racing.  He said “Oh no, I am going to crash into you,” and then he made his fire truck smash into my blue train.  So I then made the blue train spin out of control and wedge itself under the couch.

I looked at him and said, “Wow that was a bad crash, looks like the train is stuck.”

He gets a very serious look on his face, jumps up and yells, ” I need a HOOKER” and darts across the room.

My Husband looks as me and says, “What did he say.”  I am still on the floor with my mouth hanging open confused….. “I think he said he needs a hooker.”  Just then he come bounding back, ” I got my hooker car, I will save the day!”

My husbands starts to laugh and then tried to explain to our son, “That is called a tow truck or a tow car…. not a hooker.”  My son just smiles and then tows the blue train across the floor to the “fix-it man” and saves the day.

LOL we got a good laugh as we put the kids to bed later that evening and I picked up the “hooker car” and put it away for the night.

green tomatoes

I was working in the garden, when my 3 year old came out to help. He spotted a red tomato and yelled, “MOM, me see a RED tomato… can I pick it”.  He was so excited so I told him to go inside to grab a bowl and come pick the tomatoes.  He ran in, came back out and went to town picking tomatoes.  A few minutes later I hear him huffing and puffing a bit, “Mom these are heavy… Look at my tomatoes”.

I looked over to see he had picked one red tomatoes and 8 green ones. Oops guess he still does have have the whole gardening thing down just yet 🙂

barbie breakup

With summer vacation here, my girls have been playing “Barbies” everyday.  They think a boyfriend is creepy so Ken is the little brother and Barbie or Monster High doll has to drive him to all his appointments.   Because we all know little brothers can’t drive the car.   I was listening to the girls play one of them said, “Hurry and pack your bags I need to drop you off in France, I will be back in an hour to take you to  boy scouts.”

When I heard a big crash, boom and breaking glass I run into the other room so see this…

No children in site… they scattered like thieves in the night.   I see their eyes peeking over the back of the couch. I ask them, “What happened?”  They just look at me for a second and say, ” Barbie’s little brother did it…..  I wanted to get him to France quick so my bottom hit the cabinet”

LOL little brothers get blamed for everything.
