Our vacations

Ice blocking2 years ago we took Johanns brother ice blocking. So of course he wanted to try it too.  We took his brother to a hill in Idaho Falls that is perfect for Ice Blocking.  So I had to find a local hill that would work.  At first we tried a hill in Meridian, but it was not steep enough. So we decided to pack up our ice and find a better hill.

Ice blockingHe ended up going to Simplot Hill in Boise. It was a little too steep for the little kids but got the job done.  The kids had a blast ice blocking down the grass.  If you do not know what ice blocking is you can read our post about ice blocking here. Remember to bring an extra pair of pants because your bottom WILL get wet.  Also do NOT go down head first, it is not safe.

ice blocking. jpgIt was really hot, once we were done Johann took an ice bath by rubbing the block of ice all over his body.  The kids were giggling they think Johann is so much fun.ice blocking after

DSC_3913 aaOur kids have decided they want to be more active and go on runs.  I was not feeling well so I could not take them, Johann volunteered to take them.  Taking my 4 kids out on a run is sometimes more like trying to herd cats… they go in every direction and don’t listen lol.  But he was still up for the challenge, so off they went.  He had them run to the mailbox, then walk to the next mail box.  They did that over and over, they had a blast and came back worn out.DSC_3914 aaWe were filling up with gas at the local gas station, my husband pointed to a truck and said, “Here in America we move our bushes, and trees at the same time we move our sofa and tv.  Just toss everything into one truck and go.”  Johann had a funny look on his face, I busted out laughing. It was obvious that  they were headed to the dump, but it was fun to tease Johann about life here in the states. DSC_3915

Johann at the baseball gameBaseball is very much an American sport so Johann was excited to go see a baseball game live.  We went to see the Boise Hawks play.  They do a great job of making it a family friendly event and allow the kids to do fun things like run the bases, catch balls and go down on the field to sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame.  We were there almost 4 hours, it was kind of windy.  Johann did a great job of helping with the kids and even holding the baby.  He put his hat on her to keep the wind out of her face. Such a sweet boy to help!

The night before Matt and Johann went on a rafting trip on the Payette River, that is where they picked up the hats.Johann and baby Madilyn

Johann was making toast and asked were the butter was, since the butter dish was empty.  He was very surprised to see it was SO SMALL. He said this is the first food item he has found that is smaller than France.  Most things are much larger in America, but our cubes of butter are smaller :). Johann butterJohann was able to taste a Krispy Kreme…. he was totally shocked that we bought 2 dozen.  He even asked what we would do with so many donuts.  Well with a family of 7 they don’t last long, and he soon realized that after he polished off 5 donuts in about 3 minutes.johann krispyK

Johann and Matthew riding the horseWe spent most the day at home today, nothing to exciting happened. Johann had fun playing with the kids.  He even got baby Madilyn to give him some big smiles, which was absolutely adorable.  In the evening  our family went to our family friends house and rode horses for  a few hours.  He seemed to really enjoy it and was great about letting the kids ride along too.Johann and madilyn
