barbie breakup

With summer vacation here, my girls have been playing “Barbies” everyday.  They think a boyfriend is creepy so Ken is the little brother and Barbie or Monster High doll has to drive him to all his appointments.   Because we all know little brothers can’t drive the car.   I was listening to the girls play one of them said, “Hurry and pack your bags I need to drop you off in France, I will be back in an hour to take you to  boy scouts.”

When I heard a big crash, boom and breaking glass I run into the other room so see this…
barbie break up

No children in site… they scattered like thieves in the night.   I see their eyes peeking over the back of the couch. I ask them, “What happened?”  They just look at me for a second and say, ” Barbie’s little brother did it…..  I wanted to get him to France quick so my bottom hit the cabinet”

LOL little brothers get blamed for everything.

sewing with mom

I was raised by one of the craftiest ladies on earth… no joke my Mom can turn just about anything into something beautiful or creative. Check out these Wooden Photo Carvings she makes for people on Esty.  The plus side to having a SUPER talented, artistic Mom is she is constantly teaching me how to sew, paint, crochet, cross stitch or something creative. Growing up she always had a fun project for me to do.

Only problem is I am NOT near as talented as she is,  sure I am good at some things.  But others I really struggle with, like sewing it was just never my thing.  My Mom use to say, “Sarah, slow down your not driving a race car” I had a lead foot when it came to the sewing machine, and my lines were not exactly straight lol.   Yet my older sister was sewing her own clothes all threw high-school and even sewed her own wedding dress… (not me lol).

sewing oops

So still to this day when I have a sewing project I tend to go to Mom’s house for a little help.  My kids had really messed up the seat to my bench in the kitchen.  It was covered in stains and looked absolutely awful.  So for my birthday I went to Home Fabrics I was able to tackle the pillow cover just fine by myself, but the cover the the seat… well that was a little tricky and I needed my Mommy for that project.  Yes I am 33 years old and still need my Mommy:)

She was taking the old cover off so she could make a pattern off it, and we were laughing about all the old memories  of my sewing projects gone wrong.  She gave me the piece to cut out.  I was feeling rather good about my accomplishment, only to lift up the fabric and realized I totally cut right threw the table cloth underneath….. OOPS.

My Mom just looked over at me and started laughing.  I have not changed much in 20 years, still seem to find a way to mess up every sewing project I do :)  But the end project turned out just how I wanted, keeping my fingers crossed these will stay clean a little longer than the last ones.

Thanks for your help Mom :)

school bus driver

Watching my children play is one of my favorite things to do.   I love to listen to their silly little conversations and watch them in their magical world of imagination.   I was out working in the yard and my 3 year old decided to “drive” his sisters pink school bus.  I could hear him talking in his sweet little voice as he played …

Time for school

I’m a fireman, fireman Sam to the rescue

Move out of the way the garbage truck is going to squish us

Ready to get on my bus?

We’s going to drive super fast, zoom

Let’s eat cupcakes, this is the cupcake bus

Today this is the boy bus, not the pink bus…I’ms a boy too

When I turned around I saw an adorable little line of people that he was picking up and dropping off.  Made me smile :)

tug of war

This week I got to help with my sons 4th grade field trip, Wagons Ho.  This hands on experience shows kids how the pioneers lived and the skills they needed to survive.  The kids get to do everything from shake cream into butter, use a saw to cut shingles for a home,   start a fire with a stick and bow, rope a steer, wash laundry on a washboard, drill holes into wood with primitive tools and so many other fun things.

It was cold most the day but the kids seemed to enjoy every second of it none the less.  As I watched my sweet little Matthew interact with his classmates he made me smile.  He was loving every single second of it, he was ready to jump in and try every challenge they gave him.  For those of you who do not know my son is special needs, he was born missing half his heart, but complications and seizures have also left him behind kids his own age developmentally.

He is half the size of most the kids in his class, he can’t run as fast as them.  He can’t read or write at their level…. But none of that matters to him.  They are his friends and he loves every second of being at school.   Most the kids adore him as well and enjoys his happy, fun loving attitude. It makes my heart so happy to see him thriving and doing  well.  That is just it, Matthew never focuses on the things he can’t do instead he just JUMPS RIGHT IN and does the best he can.

tug of war winner

The very last event of the day was a tug of war contest.  They had all the 4th grade boys on one side of the rope and all the girls plus 5 teachers on the other side of the rope.  They counted down ready, set, go….  you have never seem kids more determined as they pulled on that rope.   The Mommy in me wanted to go snatch him up, worried he might get hurt with all those big boys tugging on the rope… but there he was grinning EAR TO EAR pulling with all his might.

And then it happened the red flag was pulled to their side and they beat the girls!  They clapped they cheered, they where the champions, they WON!  And right  in the middle of the crowd my was sweet little Matthew  giving his friends a high five, feeling 10 feet tall.  Moments like this are such a blessing from above and I am so grateful for every day we have healthy with him!

I am also so very grateful for this classmates and the kindness they show him, being “different” in anyway is never easy.  But so much easier when you have a group of kids embrace that difference with open arms.

pillows

The stomach flu hit our family this week.  My kids are still little and don’t seem to wake up in time to make it to the bathroom…. instead they explode like a rotten piñata all over their bed.  Then they start screaming for Mom (lucky me… right lol).  Sometimes I will wash their pillows in the washing machine.  But this week called for a PILLOW INTERVENTION.  It was time to toss the old ones, and replace those bad boys with a new fluffy pillow.  I bought them the $2.50 ones at Walmart, they will last just fine till the next “explosion” happens.

Meanwhile my kids think I am the best Mom ever for buying them fluffy new pillows…. little do they know I feel like I got the better end of the deal.  Because scraping the chunks off and  washing a pillow over and over to get the smell out is NOT on my “can’t wait to do that again list” in life. :)
