Easy Play-Doh Games for kids ~ Shape It and Make It

I was pretty excited that Play Doh sent us a bunch of Play-Doh for my sons 6th birthday party! We all love playing with it so it was a natural fit for his party theme! One of the games we played was, “Shape It and Make It” which my kids made up. That is one of the reasons we love Play-Doh it inspires creativity!

To play this game all you need is:

Note Cards or blank paper
Pen or marker
Play-Doh
3 or more players

Start by picking things that you can make out of Play-Doh and writing them down on your note cards. If you are playing with older kids these can be more difficult and complex. But since we were playing with 4-8 year old kids we kept it pretty basic. Some examples that we used were car, snake, house, ring. Basic shapes and common items they would all recognize and understand.

Each child will take turns being “IT”. When you are it, you get to pick a piece of paper out of the bowl and then put it on the table WITHOUT looking at it. Everyone passes that paper around and looks to see what is says on it, they then have 3 minutes to create that item. If you have little ones that can not read yet, you can whisper it in their ear instead. The person who is “IT” does not get to look at the paper, instead they just get to watch the other players create their shape. Once three minutes is up everyone puts their shape into the middle of the table. The person who is “It” now has to guess what the word on the paper is, by looking at the shapes the other players made. They then get to pick their favorite one, and then the games starts over again.

It is also fun to watch what shape they pick as their favorite. It is often NOT the one you would think. For example, the winner of the snake round was the green snake, where I thought for sure he would have picked the blue one with the open mouth.

This is such a fun way to play with Play-Doh and can keep your kids busy for a LONG time! Who said it had to be just for kids, this is a fun game to play with adults too! Just change it up a bit to make the shapes a little more difficult to make.
