The next in our series of candy boxes for Halloween, the Mummy.  If you missed the box tutorial, click here.

For the mummy you will use white or cream card stock for you box.  Go ahead and make your money/gift card holder and attach it to the back.  Now that you have that part done, it is time to start ripping paper.  You don’t want this to be perfect and clean cut. The strips don’t all have to be the same size, shape or ripped identically.  After I ripped my paper, I wanted to age them.  I got crazy with one of my favorite products for this type of project.

I love this stuff.  It gives a great distressed look and is really easy to use.  If you want to use this you can get it on Amazon here.  There are lots of color choices, but I really love this one the most.  To distress the paper, simply take your strip and rub the edge against the stamp pad like this:

Do that all the way around, on all four sides.  Continue to do that to all of your strips.  If your fingers aren’t dirty when you are done, you aren’t doing it right. 😉 For the mummy’s eyes I simply cut two 3/4 inch circles and then rubbed them on the distress pad as well to make sure they were the same color as the edging.  After they were dry, I took to black circles that I cut out with a regular hole punch.  Easy enough, right?  Glue the eyes on where you want them first.  You don’t want to forget about them!  Once the eyes are attached to the box, begin gluing your paper strips.  I alternated one on each side of the box.  I also glued them on at a small angle.  I didn’t want them going straight across.

Close up of the eyes and also how I attached the strips of paper.

Do that until he has the amount of coverage you want.  By using the same color paper for the strips as you used for the box, no one will notice if you have a few blank spots.  All you have left to do is add your box of candy, your money/gift card and you have a great, thrifty gift for anyone!

Quick Teacher or Leader Gift, Thrifty gift idea

Last night we had our blue and gold banquet.  If you aren’t familiar with cub scouts, a blue and gold banquet is a celebration of Boy Scout’s birthday.  It is just a fun way to celebrate with the boys and their families.  We wanted to celebrate our leaders and all the hard work that they do.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of extra money in our budget for anything fancy.  We had a camping theme and wanted something to go along those lines so we bought some bar mixes.  They were similar to these here but the price on these is fabulous!

We made these cute tags.  I used my handy program for my Silhouette that I am always talking about.   I didn’t use the machine, just printed on my printer and created on the program that came with the machine.  If you have a machine and are interested in the file let us know and I can send it to you!

I made them so that there were four copies on a sheet and glued them on to a rectangle of scrapbook paper pieces I had on hand.  That made them all different.

Using bakers twine I tied them to the front of the boxes.  We then presented them to the leaders during the evening.

It is a great, inexpensive way to recognize that we appreciate their help and all that they do.  This would also be great for teachers, bus drivers or anyone that you want to show you appreciate!

Halloween candy wrapper money holder black cat

Halloween candy wrapper money holder~ Black Cat

No bad luck when this black cat crosses your path!  Just the next in our Halloween series of  candy wrapper covers.

When you get your box ready that we learned how to make here, we can start on his adorable face.

If you are making this for Halloween, be sure to use black card stock for his body.  You will also need pink for his nose and ears, White for eyes and whiskers, and black  for his ears and pupils.  You should have plenty of your black from your base to cover all of that.  I am all about using every bit of scrap paper!  Its thrifty and helps keep the waste down.

I personally thought it was cute with his eyes different sizes, but they can be cut the same if you wish.  I cut one circle 1 inch and the other 3/4 inch.  If you have a circle craft punch that would work perfectly.  Feel free to find something to trace, a quarter would work nicely.

To cut the whiskers I simply cut small strips off of a piece of paper.  It is ok if they aren’t perfect, just cut them fairly thin, like a whisker.Candy wrapper money holder black cat eyes and whiskers

For the ears, I cut triangles like I did for the pumpkin box.

For the pink, inner ear, cut a triangle, smaller then the black triangle, but round the sides like this:

Attach those to the inside of the black triangle ears.  Now attach them to the inside, front of the box.  So they are peeking over the top edge.

Attach the whiskers to the box where you want them, overlapping the ends that are glued to the face.  You are going to be gluing those underneath the small nose, so you want to get them fairly close.

The nose is a circle with a flat bottom.  Mine is far from perfect,  but that gives him character.  Attach the nose over the whiskers.

All you have left for his face are the black circles for the pupils.  This would also be cute with buttons.  For small pupils you could use a standard size hole punch.  Use what you have and it will turn out great!  Glue the eyes on to the candy wrapper box and you are ready to add your envelope for the gift card/money.  I chose to attach that to the front, but if you feel that is in the way, you could put it on the back as well.
