My kids go back to school in 3 weeks, where has the summer gone.  Here is a fun craft to get them ready for school or just for fun.  It is quick, easy and does not cost much to make.  Perfect for a large group or just for one person.

Supplies needed:

  • Pipe cleaner
  • Craft Pom Pom
  • Pair of googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue

Directions:
1. Begin by cutting the pipe cleaner in half. You can either discard the second half or turn it into another bookworm pencil topper.
2. Add a generous dab of glue to one end of the pipe cleaner.
3. Press a crafting pom pom to the glue and hold it in place until secure. This will be the head of your bookworm.
4. Place some glue on the back of your googly eyes and press them to the pom pom. Your bookworm should now take shape.
5. Wrap the bookworm around the pencil pulling tightly as you go. The end result should look like a bookworm crawling up the pencil.

My Mom used to do something similar for the children in her class many years ago. She would twist two pipe cleaners together side by side so they became one and then looped one end into a head and attached googly eyes. Then she twisted them up the pencil. Her classes always loved them and then she even sold a ton of them at the school fall festival.
