DIY Pumpkin From Canning Jar Bands

Tis the season for lots of canning! If you have been canning this season, or have canned in the past, you probably have several extra jar bands sitting around the kitchen.

My sister in law recently moved and didn’t want to take all of her extra canning supplies with her, so I inherited it! Unfortunately, when I opened the good size bag of bands she had given me, many of them were rusty and not necessarily in the best condition to be used for canning anymore. I couldn’t bare to part with them! Then I had the greatest idea, I made them into a fall decoration, and now you can too!

You will need:

Canning jar bands that are the same size

Bakers twine or yarn

Scissors to cut the twine

Small branch or paper that can be rolled to resemble a stem

Begin by cutting a piece of your bakers twine that is long enough to get several bands on it with extra room to tie it together at the end. I would say about a foot long. I used wide mouth jar bands, but any size will work, just keep them all the same size.

Now you are going to hold one side of the bakers twine, and slide the bands all on the other end but facing the same direction. Sorry for the blurry photo, but you can see how I would slide a band on and then firmly hold both ends of the twine in my hand to keep them from rolling back off.

Once you have enough bands on to form a circle, (I used about 18) You will want to tie the ends of your bakers twine together tightly. and trim the ends so that the don’t hang out. Then make sure to arrange them so they form a nice circle.

You will be left with a circle in the middle. This is the perfect place to add a thick branch or a piece of paper that is rolled into a stem. What a great, easy, quick project to spruce up your fall decor!
